- 04Use a safe heated location when indoor temperatures threaten occupants or plumbing.

- Filter condition, visible ice, water, odor and unusual sound—without opening equipment
- Exact indoor/outdoor model numbers and system age when safely visible
- Fuel type, indicator/error code transcribed without opening panels, and CO alarm status
Shut off / urgent help signals
Gas odor; Carbon-monoxide alarm or symptoms; Smoke, soot or flame outside the burner area; Repeated breaker trip or burning electrical odor. For fire, gas, carbon-monoxide concerns or immediate danger, leave the danger area and call 911. During dangerous heat or cold, prioritize a safe conditioned location and local emergency guidance.
